Here are a few highlights from the last year:
We are planning to take as much stuff as we can fit in two vans and a trailer to MS or LA. Baby formula, baby food, diapers, OTC meds, school supplies, sports drinks, etc. Leaving Illinois on Friday night. Any suggestions for shelters or churches or neighborhoods full of refugees that may not be getting all they need from relief agencies who have to focus on the large urban areas? We would like to get this stuff directly into the hands of those who need it ASAP. Thanks, Jean

This is such a wonderful idea. My heart breaks at the pictures on the television every night. The children are in such dire need for basics. I’m willing to donate the following items: Maternity clothes - sizes small-large. I have suits and casual wear. Childrens’ clothing - boy sizes 0-12 months and girls’ clothing up to size 4t Baby items: gently used blankets, bouncy seats, bathtub, doorway jumper, exersaucer Toys: anything you can imagine for the 0-3 year old group- in good condition - (many baby toys) Books: many many books for children and adults We are also willing to donate assorted kitchen items, diapers and formula. Just let me know where to ship my items and thank you so much for doing this.
Hi! I live in Monroe,La. Hundreds of evacuees have been relocated to my city and cities nearby. I would like to help families in anyway possible. I have boy clothes 0 months to 18 months. A few toys. I have some adult clothes.Blankets,towels,bedding. I have odds and ends of things people could use. Whatever I dont have that might be needed. I can do whatever I can to try and get. Just give me a list of things needed and I will do whatever I can to get those things to any family or families that may need them. I hope that whatever I can give will help. I can also make phonecalls or send emails for evacuees trying to reach family. Please contach and let me know what I can do to help.
Since Katrina hit, I’ve started ‘Operation Pillowcase” in which I am making small pillows (sewing the pillowcases) to give to the children to hopefully offer them some comfort at night. I’ve been mailing them to Texas where my parents have been giving them out to the shelters. My friends from all over the U.S. have been sewing and we now have over 300 pillows. If anyone is interested in helping to keep “Operation Pillowcase” going strong, feel free to email me and I will give you the pattern. (My husband and I are purchasing the pillows and paying for them to be delivered. We live in the los angeles area.) Hoping to hear from you….! lovingly, DeLee
I am so moved by all the stories I have read. My daughter has started collecting items for all the children and families in need, and is getting more help from her friends. I am so glad I found this site, so rather than giving money, we can donate items of real value to the people who need it fast instead of waiting for agencies who are understaffed or unorganized. What you guys are doing is AWESOME!!! So far we have toys, both for girls and boys; board games, all ages; clothes, all seasons, all sizes, mainly girls and womens; shoes, girls and womans sizes; sheets, blankets, kids sleeping bags, personal hygiene products, books, magazines, coloring books, crayons, markers, note pads, colored pencils, pens and pencils. I’m sure we have more stuff, I just can’t list it all. Please let me know who needs it, where to send it and anything else that may be needed. We also can get pet supplies if needed, so let me know. Thank you again for providing this site, and letting us help.
This is just what i was looking for. I am a Girl Scout Leader - junior troop of 5th graders from Lumberton, New Jersey. We would like to donate toys, clothing -child and adult, school supplies - what ever is needed - we will collect. Please let us know where to send and what is needed. Thank You and God Bless!
To assist in a geeky sort of way I’m offering free hosting (preferrably a Wordpress blog) to those effected by the hurricane, just contact me via email or my website (click my name below) and I will set it up for you.
I am in the 2nd grade of Lincoln Elementary School. I had an idea that kids don’t have any toys or books. I had a lot of them and want to send them to a family with young kids who have nothing. My class would do this too. I am looking for a list of 30 families and the name of the 1st, 2nd or 3rd grader in the family to send a letter and a small box of toys and books. We are starting this week for delivery next week. Can someone give us the list from a school that has kids there because they lost there homes?
I have a used car (1989 Audi) in good condition, a good set of pots and pans, a little microwave, and some nice clothing. Would like to connect these things with Katrina survivors in need. Wondering how to do that. Oh, and I live near Seattle.
I live in Metairie, LA, which is only 5 min. from New Orleans and I personally would like to send a huge Thanks to all of you who are doing so much to help not only us but Miss. and Alabama as well. May God Bless You All for a job well done. Mindy
My family and I would like to thank every person who has opened up their hearts of love and care to us. The girls are enjoying the gifts of blessing you have pour out on them. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we pray that God will bless each and every heart at has reached out to his children in this time of need. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. and God bless.
I am a professional balloon twister. I have arranged a week that I can travel around shelters and balloon for all. I prefer to be in a shelter but will also visit small towns. My route will be from Chicago through southern Il then over to Louisiana. I am volunteering my services All I ask is the name and number of a contact point. And if commercial housing is not available, somewhere to sleep at night. I will have a sleeping bag with me.
The Jenkins family would like to send out a deep heartfelt “THANKS” to all those that came to help in their time of need. After about a week of putting the word out, they have been overwhelmed with phone calls and non-stop deliveries. We thank everyone’s efforts and we would also recommend this website to all those still in need. And I’d like to add that this family has been instrumental in their own success for the future. They have jobs and are searching for their own home in the near future.
Thanks again and God bless
I will like to take out this time and just thank the people on this website who helped my kids and I we are displaced from New Orleans and we lost everything due to Hurricane Katrina. We are grateful for everything that was offered and donated to us without this website and the people opening up their hearts I don’t know where my kids and I would be. Thanks to everyone who has reached out to a Hurricane Katrina family and helped I’m saying thanks if no one else has.
