Families, organizations, groups of friends, co-workers, book groups, neighborhood associations and school classes poured their hearts out and offered so many wonderful things to families displaced by Katrina. We share a few of the messages posted to this site, but please know the love and generosity from so many, especially the kids, will stay with us, and those you helped, forever.

I live in Virginia. I want to bring one or two families everything they need to get back on their feet. Tents, propane, food, water, toothbrushes, clothing, shoes… whatever. I also can provide a couple of weeks of manpower (from myself) to volunteer to help clean up or assist in any way possible. I can do whatever it takes. I barely have enough money to pay for gas to get down there, but I want to help. And I am currently taking donations in my neighborhood here, and will hopefully leave here by Thursday 9/15.

My husband is the Pastor of two small rural United Methodist Churches in Central Ohio. We might be small in number, but we have big hearts! Our women’s group would be honored if we could be the extended “family” for a family. We can usually come up with just about anything that is needed, as long as it’s shippable. Please find us a family with children so our youth can get involved as well. We’ll be anxiously waiting to hear from you.

We have pulled together the resources to house a family of 4 in St. Petersburg, Florida. We have rented an apartment for the cause and can pay the utilities, etc. for up to 6 months for a family that is in need. We can also provide transportation to get them here. I own a small business and my husband is a Firefighter. Let me know if you know of a family. I am also checking with the New Orleans fire dept to see if they might have a family. We are still trying to furnish the apartment if anyone can help with that.

We would love to “adopt” a family and help with their needs. We are also willing to take in a child and care for them, clothe them and enroll them in school while their family is located or gets back on their feet. We have an 11 year old son for companionship.

I would love to find a family or families to send items to. I’ve already delivered what I have to families in my location. But I am constantly buying things to help the people of this horrible disaster and if I have specific items, I can get those. I would LOVE to help out in anyway I can! Thanks! and God Bless All Of You!

I’m a recent college grad with limited funds so I am trying to reach out on a larger scale with more people. I am in the process of trying to form a large group of recent grads (as well as current students) to donate however they can and we can buy/send supplies with this. So maybe as a larger group we can sponsor a family. Please let me know how we can help. Thank you for this.

I would like to extend our prayers and our help from Lovell, WY. I have a 2 bedroom Mobile Home that we can offer to a family in need. We are a close knit community and have pooled together many rescourses for a family to relocate or get back on their feet in Big beautiful Wyoming. I have a gift shop here so we have many many things available such as baby and childrens clothing, and all accessories for children. We have a wonderful school system and a community that will out pour love and help on a family. I have too many rescourses to list here, please contact me and I will be happy to go over it. We in Lovell Wyoming extend our best wishes, love and prayers to all the victims of hurricane Katrina and hope to help someone soon.

WORKING MUSICIANS: Storrs, CT is the home of The Knothole Gang–actually, just me and my musical friends,
a totally unofficial but tight-knit community of very creative types who like to make music together and
generally try to better the state of mankind. Specifically, I am a luthier (guitar maker), my cohorts are
musicians of all descriptions, artists, craftsmen, philosophers, etc.,–a lot of people who always check
“Other” on surveys. We don’t have much money, but some of us have pretty good connections–in the music
world, in particular. If you’re a working musician and need help, let me know and I’ll put out the word
and we’ll do whatever we can to fix or replace your ax, find you housing, a gig, etc. And to all those we
cannot help–may you be well and lucky from here on. Our hearts go out to you.

My family has decided rather than buy each other presents this year, we want to sponsor a family in need. We have clothes (men’s and women’s), shoes, sheets, towels, etc to give, but our friends and family will be buying and gathering more. PLEASE send me an email so we can start a dialogue and get your family what you need ASAP. We’d love to help. Talk to you soon.
