Hi, I wanted to let you know of a site I have to support survivors and give them valuable information regarding FEMA, outside assistance, support, etc.
The information is for Louisiana, but has extended to Mississippi, Texas and Alabama as well. We have members from New Orleans who have relocated all over the country, some who have temporary housing, some waiting for trailers, some living with friends. We cover the spectrum.
This site offers first-hand, professional information on FEMA application process, additional assistance from many volunteer agencies, other members offering information on resources as well as support and a rather large collection of files and links for FEMA information, resources, assistance and other things that survivors would find beneficial.
Additionally, questions are posted to the group and answered by whichever group is applicable.
Please take a moment and visit the group site, check out the files, the members, the postings, etc. Perhaps you will join in our efforts and even refer other survivors to us. We are working on an extensive database where volunteer organizations can pool resources to offer help while applicants can fill out one application to register.
i am a mom of 2 5 yr old boy and 13 yr old daughter. we have been asked to leave their residemce. i was a student at mmi until finances. my kids go to deer valley schools and i’d like ti get back into school we have no where to go for xmas amd no cash michelle
My name is Stephanie Homme. I am with FEMA Public Affairs - Special Projects in Baton Rouge. We are working with the recovery efforts here in Louisiana.
I am so impressed with all the public outreach and people wanting to help. Our Community Relations section is introducing a new program, Neighbor Helping Neighbor, that allows citizens, such as yourself, help evacuees complete applications for assistance.
We realize that there are some people who have not completed their applications or are hesitant to pursue the appeal process or complete the SBA loan application. Some people do not trust the government or feel that the government won’t help them, some may have a family member who is an illegal immigrant or a fugitive, others may simply feel that they have no right to ask for help.
We want to reach these people. We want to help them get the assistance they deserve and so desperately need. As you all likely know, we have evacuees all over the U.S. and many need help.
This is where you come in. Through the Neighbor Helping Neighbor Program, YOU can help evacuees get that assistance. All you need to do is fill out a form for your group, return it and someone from Community Relations will contact you and get the training manual to you. Currently, we are working with nursing homes, church groups and other organizations to give them the tools to help their neighbors.
We welcome your help, please contact me if you are interested. You may contact me directly or you may go to my group page and get the information there. Thank you so much for all your help. I look forward to hearing from you all soon.

HI
WE ARE KATRINA VICTIMS FROM NEW ORLEANS. MY SON IS IN THE 11TH GRADE AND PERFORMING BELOW HIS GRADE LEVEL.IF ANYONE CAN DONATE MONEY TO THIS CAUSE, PLEASE DO SO.
YOU CAN SEND THE MONEY DIRECTLY TO SYLVAN,WE ARE ONLY ASKING FOR DONATIONS TO BENEFIT HIS EDUCATION.
WE HAVE LIVED IN NEW ORLEANS ALL OUR LIVES, AND I WAS ALWAYS THOUGHT MY SON WAS A GREAT STUDENT. MEANING, HE NEVER GOT INTO TROUBLE IN SCHOOL, HE WAS NEVER SUSPENDED,AND HIS GRADES WERE ALWAYS GOOD(I THOUGHT). HOWEVER, SINCE WE HAVE BEEN HERE IN TEXAS, I HAVE LEARNED MY KID IS IN TROUBLE OF FAILING.
I WOULD NOT ASK FOR THIS HELP IF I DIDN’T NEED IT. I USED MY UNEMPLOYMENT MONEY TO SEND HIM TO SYLVAN FOR THE ASSESSMENT. BUT I WAS TOLD BECAUSE HE NEEDS SO MUCH HELP
IT WILL COST ME ALMOST $400.00 PER MONTH TO HELP HIM CATCH UP.
MANY OF THE KIDS HAVE SUFFERED AND ENDURED SO MUCH PAIN THIS PAST YEAR I DIDN’T WANT MY KID TO HAVE TO SUFFER ONCE AGAIN AND TO THINK HE IS BENEATH ANYONE. IT IS NOT HIS FAULT, IT IS MINE AND THE MANY TEACHERS THAT HAVE FAILED MY CHILD. BECAUSE HE WAS A QUITE STUDENT, TEACHERS ONLY ASSUMED HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING.
IF YOU CAN HELP IN ANYWAY, OR YOU MAY KNOW SOMEONE IN THE HOUSTON AREA THAT MAYBE ABLE TO HELP MY KID PLEASE CONTACT ME.(WE APPRECIATE ANY HELP WE CAN GET)
SINCERELY, MOM AND SON
I am writing to anyone who may read this post and wants to help us. My family which is Myself Cayla 16 and Chaz 11 are Katrina Victims. We are from a Parish called St.Bernard La. which was devastated by Katrina. If you havent heard or seen footage from St.Bernard I will fill you in a little. Its was town of about 220,000 people with over 40,000 people. Katrina wiped out the whole town not from her winds but from the levee breaks. My house was covered in water 22 feet deep for two weeks, theres nothing to salvage, nothing. About a week ago the Parish recommended my home be bulldozed because they said it was unlivable. Its gone now! We have moved on like
many others from our town but its been a challange for all of us in every way. Just think for a second about my daughter who was approaching her senior year at high school. Cayla was a cheerleader and had many friends boys and girls. Those students are now spread all over the USA as far as New York and Washington State. They will not have there senior year together. That was just to give you a small idea of ehat we have been going through these past three months. I just started a new job because my last was lost because of Katrina. I am a single father who had to give two children
a Christmas I hope they will forget. I couldnt give them anything but a 10 dollar
gift a piece, they understand. My foodstamps have been cut off and FEMA has DENIED me for a grant and SBA has DENIED me because I had a lack of income at the time,
go figure. I am asking for any monetary donation or gift cards anything that will help us because our Government is not helping, Oh and the RED CROSS, I got a whopping $320
for my family. If you donate to us I will keep you posted on our progress and send you pictures of the area of my former home. Please help my family! I didnt want to write a story but this is the only way you can get a small feeling of whats happened to
us. I also Have a Paypal Acount its cjsbad2@aol.com. Anything will help. If you want to talk to me further you can call at 504-259-3943. Thanks and God Bless of all you!
Hi all! I just wanted to say “Thank you so much” to all of you who helped my family and I out so much. It really means so much to us. We have almost all we need. I am only asking one more thing… My son’s 1st birthday is coming up on Feb. 1st and I would like to do a little something for him since it only happens once. If anyone can help me out it would be WONDERFUL!!! Again thank you all so much! adebolin@yahoo.com
Hello everyone! My family and I are from the New Orleans area and originally evacuated to Brookhaven, MS. We have permanently moved to Nashville, TN as of December 1. I was wondering if anyone knows of any website that might put me in touch with a veterinarian that is willing to donate time to my cat. We have 3 of them and one of them has a foreign object stuck to his cornea. I took him to the vet last week and they want to do surgery to remove the object but they also want an arm and a leg in payment. The SPCA was of no help as they are for adoption and spay/neuter services. My husband and I aren’t working up here yet (start working in a week!!! YEA!)and currently I have 2 children to feed on top of the 3 cats. I am not looking to rob anyone blind in a monetary donation. I just want to get in touch with a vet that would help my cat. If anyone can assist please let me know. Thanks so much!

Hello everyone,
My name is Yvonne and I am a married Mother of 4 ages 8-7-4-and 5 months. We are all victims of Hurricane Katrina. We lived in a small town called Saint Bernard…My husband was born there and has never left…until now that is.
Anyway I was directed to this site by a wonderful person who helped me give my children a Christmas. I have FINALLY been placed in a home here in Alabama thanks to HUD. The reason I am writting today is because we now have a home to live in but nothing to live with…I have no beds..no chairs no nothing….The kids are all excited about their new house and keep asking me Momma when can we get our beds…but I can’t…I don’t have the money as of right now…thanks to delays with FEMA I guess…I call them everyday just about to get the same ole news…I’m sorry Mrs. Landry your case is still under review….I guess what I am asking is that if anyone can help with ANYTHING I would be eternally grateful…and when I say anything I mean anything…you don’t realize just how much the bed sheets mean until you have none…I am so SICK of paper plates…lol…I swore by them pre Katrina but now….it would be so nice to eat off a REAL plate..silly I know…but its the small things you miss…it truly is.
Thank you for reading my post and lending me your earA!
*hugs and love to all*
Yvonne & Family
PS To all those who have posted here from Saint Bernard…wether I know you or not…We love you and KNOW what your going through…We will be able to go home one day…and eat a Po-boy from Miss Lou’s or some spicy boiled seafood from Todays Ketch (which by the way is open!! YAY) Keep your head up and that St.Bernard pride forever in your heart!! May God Bless and keep you!
i again! I have just run into some BIG problems and need some help. As with many people financial situations have been completely messed up ever since the storm, and well it just got worse for us. We took out a small loan awhile back to help us get things fixed, and unexpectedly it just hit us. Our bank account is now $446 negative. My husband’s next check is only going to be about $700 and we have a $579 truck payment, gas $239 propane bill and groceries we have to pay for. there is no way we can get all this done as well as get our account back to wear it should be. On top of this, my son, Kaiden’s birthday is coming up on the 1st of February and I really don’t think we will be able to do anything for him. This breaks my heart as the first only comes once. Also we just found out the month after will be REALLY messed up on pay as my husband in deploying to Iraq, so there is no way we can get things back to where they need to be until probably the end of April. I really don’t think we can make it that long with having to buy food, diapers, bills, etc. If anyone can help up PLEASE PLEASE write me. It will mean so much to us. Thank you and God Bless You!

I bought all of my insulation, sheetrock, electrical;outlets, breakers and breaker boxes, switches and wiring.”TO those of you who don’t know,ELECTRICAL is VERY
EXPENSIVE.” I have also bought my a/c unit and 3 exterior doors.Thats where I am now!
If anyone can PLEASE help me as far as flooring, cabinets, appliances,a few windows and a

our family has relocated to colodado since the storm. we are now trying to get back home. like most of us the little bit of money from the government wasn’t enough to make a new start elsewhere, so we are going back home. I have a job offer & applied for a FEMA trailer, but we have to leave colorado by the end of feburary. It’ll cost us about $1,000 for the move. and we hope to get the trailer by then.
need to see if anyone has a small automatic good running car for a lady who is a diabetic, raising her grandchild. she lives in the disaster area and needs a way to be able to get to the doctor.have some money to put on it. she lives in petal ms so it would need to be close enough that we could come get it. she had surgery right after katrina and i worry about her being where she can not even get out.please email me with any information at bgvis115@yahoo.com
I wrote a post the other day but our situation just got worst. My son was put into the hospital from sat till monday with rotavirus and our insurance is not that great. so we have some serious medical bills. we are so worried about getting the things he needs and still being able to have the things we need. He has out grown everything i had for him. And while he was sick at home he went through the last 3 packs of diapers that we had put up for him. Due to him having this. If any one can PLEASE PLEASE help me I would be very grateful. He is in 3-6 months clothing and if you can he will be needing 6-9 month clothes soon to. he can drink any formula. and he wears size 1 or 2 diapers. any thing will be gratefuly appreciated. my e-mail is mandi_pooh_4u@yahoo.com

Hi again everyone! I have recieved help here from such wonderful people and am now trying to help some others! I am trying to gather baby items and preemie clothing for the families of premature babies in the area who were caught of guard with the early births. Most of these people have nothing for their tiny babies and are so preoccupied with their situation they don’t have time to think about preparing for the day their baby will come home, let alone go out and get things for them. I know USA Women’s and Children’s in Mobile, AL had many many babies there right now. There are many who can use the help. Needed items are: Blankets, Preemie clothing, both boys and girls, preemie and newborn diapers, bassinets, carseats, cribs, and breast pumps. This is just the beginning, but they are the thing that will be needed the most. I hope to hear from anyone who wants to help soon! I will assure you, all items will make it to a wonderful little baby and his/her family! If you want anymore information on what I am trying to do, or where it’ll go, feel free to email!

Hello, I have received a little bit of much needed help from some wonderful people Thanks so much you know who you are. So now i am trying to help another family in need. My best friends have ran into some major problems right now. They were renting a trailor before katrina and it leaked really bad and they did not know due to it being in the ceiling or what ever i am not sure how that works but they did not know till they all got sick. Her husband works with my husband and missed alot of work, and due to them being sick from the mold he missed even more work. They have a little girl who just turned one. Well they were living with his parents, but his parents were unable to have them there any longer so they had to move out so they are trying to buy a trailor well thats made them have to cut back on ALOT of stuff. Well if that was not bad enough the wife just had to have emergancy to remove tumers on her overies. Their insurance made them pay $600.00 dollars up front that they did not have. They either could have paid their trailor note or pay for her to have surgery. Well they of course chose the surgery. So now they are very worried about what they are going to do. They can borrow the money for the trailor note, but then they dont have enough money to buy their daughter her milk and cereal and baby food, clothes, and diapers and wipes and such. She is currently still in the hospital recovering from surgery and is trying to make the drs let her come home early just so they bill wont be so high. So as you can see they are having a very hard time right now. If any one out there can help in any way please contact me. she dont have a computer so I will get it to her. But please, concider helping even with some thing small. Her daughter drinks whole milk now so that wont work but she wears size 4 diapers, 18 month clothes, size 5 shoe. She just turned 1 on the 25th and they were unable to buy her any thing so if any one has an extra toy or some thing please let me know. Thank you so much for reading even if you cant help please say a prayer for my best friends. they dont know i am trying to help in this way they are to proud to ask me to post this. thanks mandi.
I think it is great what you all are doing. I have a large amount of pride and it is hard for me to ask for anything, but I am at my wits end and out of money. I moved to Kansas to get away from the sadness down here. We were living 1 block off the beach when Hurricane Katrina hit in Gulfport MS. We had to stay because we did not have a vehicle at the time. We are lucky to be alive. I thank god for that. We lost everything. We were so homesick in KS. that I told my husband I would rather be living at home in a tent with nothing than someplace I did not know. So we put our clothes back in the car and went home. We found a job that includes an apt.+$300 a month, but this is just enough to pay the electric and phone bill. It leaves little for anything else. We need clothes, blankets, sheets, towels, furniture, everything you can imagine. Food too if anyone knows where we could find some. My husband wears size 36 in pant and xl in shirts. I wear size 1X in pants and shirts. If the shirts are a big xl I can wear them same with pants. We both need shoes size 10. that is the biggest thing shoes. I cannot afford to pay for shipping unfortunatly.
Please oh Please if someone can help please contact me at lorag222@juno.com. I will email you right back. The phone isn’t hooked yet but I can check my email at my friends house everyday. May the lord bless you all in everyway. thankyou lorigalin (contact me anytime.)
I don’t know if anyone is reading this, and I don’t know if there are any assistance out there for me and my son, and the situation that I am in. I am also from, Louisiana. New Orleans to be exact. I left a few months before Katrina for a medical emergency, my wife needed to return, Oregon, for mental health issues. During the course of this we watched in dismay as our whole life was distroyed in a matter of hours. Home with everything in it, and my job. At first I didn’t think that it would happen, for the city had been evacuated one before for the same reason, and by the grace of God, it missed us in New Orleans.
Since I have been here I have had to file an R.O. “Restraining Order” on my wife for placing my son’s safety in danger, and for D.V. “Domestic Violence”. At the time my son was 12-months-old, he is now 19-months-old.
I am currently looking into returning back to New Orleans with a 3-4 month stayover in California. I do have a FEMA ID number for my losses, and will be obtaining assistance from FEMA for housing. Until that time I have nothing for myself, or my son. I have a vehicle that is in need of some repairs in order for me to make the trip back to New Orleans safely. Repairs that I could do myself if I had the right tools.
I don’t know want to do about my home that was destroy my hurrican katrina. I had no flood ins. i didn’t need it. I have a big mortgage on it. I am not going back. and I really don’t want to go bankrup.
We have a support group for Katrina victims (and Rita!). We answer questions and we have a lot of volunteer agencies on there who help our members.
Please check it out at www.groups.yahoo.com/group/helpforkatrina
Please help me–how do I find resources to help rebuild our home and restart our lives?
FEMA funds granted have been depleted due to high cost of materials and labor leaving our home incomplete. No homeowner’s insurance due to high cost of medicines for my husband who has been ill with severe diabetes for a few years now.
We have tried to be very frugal in our purchases foregoing clothes, etc. to buy materials and supplies to rebuild.
If anyone knows of any way to ship bulk let me know.
I have more enough stuff. I have know money to ship it.
Would like to see this stuff go to hurrican victims.
In any of the states hit.
Any chruch groups that are intrested. Or other groups that are helping
victims. Please give me a call.

God bless,

Hello everyone. I am a 17 year old junior attending high school in Camden County, New Jersey and was interested in organizing a school clothing drive to help out the victims of hurricane Katrina. If anyone could assist my school’s enviornmental club in doing so or knows of any organzations that could assist us that would be very helpful. We need an effective way to get the students to participate in donating clothing and/or other items to help out the Katrina relief fund.
Please contact me if you have any information.
Thankyou!

Hello, everyone, I hope everyone is well and is in good spirits. I need help. I entrust my 1991 Ford Areostar to a local mechanic and it was stolen. The mechanic said that he is not held liable for the theft and that is that! I have not way of getting me and my eight children around. I use this vehicle to bring my children back and forth to school. Their is no public bus service and my children will have to get a ride with the neighbor for now. I am still awaiting payment from FEMA and have exhuated my unemployment checks trying just to pay my bills. I don’t know where to turn. Please allow me to tell you a brief history. I lost my youngest daughter Elizabeth 07/19/2001 after battling Leukodystrophy her website is still up and running and touching others still to this day. She indeed was a little piece of heaven sent here from above. If you would like to see her website it is http://www.elizabethshope.8m.com My marriage split up in 2002 soon after her death. And he has yet to pay any child support for my daughter Yvonne. I have been blessed to work for the same company since 2002. We have survived 3 hurricanes since 2004 to present. We lost everything.. It was so hard to see everything you worked for just gone “poof” in an instant. Not one time but 3! But I know the Lord has a bigger and better plan for us. In February a year ago I was almost ran over by a valet parking attendant with my own car! There is still a dent in my car where my body hit the car or rather where the car hit me. I have had 3 surgeries to try and fix my knee. My 1st surgery was last September and I have been in a wheelchair since that time. I just had my 3rd surgery this past Wednesday 03/08 and I am in tremendous pain! I am due to start Physical Therapy on Monday. Please pray with me that I can walk again! We have been surviving on what little savings I had and it is gone. We just found out the house is full of black mold and thats why we have been so sick. And to be honest with you the house is in my mothers name and she wants us out asap. My sister is handling all of my mothers finances. I wish I had a close knit family but I am not blessed to have one. I was unable to make the payments as of September.. Everything was ok until September my 1st surgery. I have applied for disability my doctor suggested that and I must admit that has me worried! I had to hire an attorney to handle matters with the hospital that is where I was hit by the valet the day of the accident. I applied for low income housing back in August and I am still on the waiting list. They told me it could be another 18 more months. I just don’t know what to do? We are literally so close to being put out on the street it is so scary. I have never ever before been through this! Can someone help us? Thank You for taking the time to read this. It means so very much and please keep us in your prayers. Lisa Kelly 5001 Ridgeway Blvd Milton, FL 32570 I began PT on Monday 03/13 and it has been so rough and painful… I am basically having to relearn how to walk… will keep everyone posted.. Thanks again Lisa

My son and I have relocated to Pittsbugh area from Louisiana due to Hurricane Katrina. Thanks to so many people here, they have helped us very much. Everyone has welcomed us with open arms and make us feel at home here. I do need to ask for help with something though. I have no transportation and it is so expensive to do my laundry since I have no wash machine. I forgot how much of a luxury a washer was to me. I guess it takes something like this to show us how much we take for granted in our everday lives. If anyone can help please email me at maidennanny@yahoo.com. It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for this site and everything ya’ll have done for us who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Ya’ll are in our prayers as well as those who have stayed back home to try to rebuild their lives.
ANYONE who lost a home or has extensive damage - you NEED to complete the SBA disaster loan application - even if you think you cannot afford a loan.
Do this because:
1) it is part of the total US govt. process, and you will not get all the help you need if you don’t do this step.
2) It is cheap, low interest money that you may need, and may qualify for.
SBA can use EITHER current employment, at time of application, or previous employment, prior to disaster.
You do WANT the low-interst loan if you can get it. 2.687% fixed, simple interest.
They will give you a year before you make any payments and they will set payment amount to suit your budget.
DO not count debt incurred after the storm.
You should always appeal if you get a denial.Take a copy of the letter they send you - and address the issues they stated; either lack of repayment ability (income or income to debt ratio) OR credit rating (explain any quirks or dips in your credit scores)
DO not just accept the denial
If you are still in the area of the disaster there may still be SBA people to help you. Call 1-800-659-2955 for more help - or steps to take
or 1-800-366-6303 - custmer service.
TIME is running out - do not decide if you want or can afford theloan - just do the paper work and decide later if it isoffered. ESP. if you have an existing mortgage on a house that was destroyed. They will refinance - and you can save your credit.
Hello, I am a victum of Hurriane Katrina. My request is that the house we live in
does not have any air conditions. If someone have any to give let contact me. Can

Hey, guys, my friend is working with the recovery efforts here in Louisiana and they are organizing this event. She asked me to pass this on. They desperately need volunteers. Since you are working with volunteers or with the recovery of the area, please pass this on to all your groups, friends, etc. There are phone numbers at the end of this where you can call to verify that it is legitimate.
Your organization, if you are affiliated with one, may even be interested in participating.
Thanks!
FEMA is seeking volunteers to assist with our Be Aware…Prepare! Hurricane Preparedness Campaign in Louisiana. Our kick-off events will be Family Preparedness Day fairs in Lake Charles and New Orleans. FEMA needs volunteers to staff this event and to be part of the pre-event coordinating.
The event date is Sunday, May 21, 2006. The Lake Charles Family Preparedness Day will be located at the Lake Charles Civic Center Grounds and Amphitheatre, and the New Orleans event will be at Tulane University’s Reily Student Recreation Center. Volunteers are needed to staff the event either for the entire day, or for the following shifts:
7:00 am – 10:30 am Set-up for Event
10:00 am – 1:30 pm Complete Set-up for event
1st Shift Booth and Activity Staffing
The time you contribute to this event will assist us in reaching thousands of families and educate them in hurricane and general disaster preparedness. We will also provide documentation of your community service hours on FEMA letterhead if official volunteer credit is needed for your school or organization.
We are also accepting participation in the event from community groups and organizations. If you, or your organization, are interested in this volunteer opportunity or in being a part of this event, please call the Volunteer Coordinators:
hi my name is tracy and i live in bay st louis, ms. we lost everything to hurricane katrina and my mother lives in new orleans where she also lost everything and is trying to rebuild. if anyone knows of anyone distributing materials in new orleans and bay st louis to rebuild such as sheetrock, insulation, flooring, lumber, paint, appliances, etc…we are in need of these items to rebuild. and being that i am in the same boat as my mother i am not able to help her in new orleans. her birthday is coming up on may 9th and also mothers day. mostly i am seeking help for her, it would be wonderful to be able to find help for her and be able to at least do that much for her. her name is patricia and her phone number is 504- 638-2355 every little bit of help is a blessing to our families.. thank you
I am working with a family who is in need of $703.15 for car repairs and another $214 to get their licenses switched. Do you know of anyone or place who can assist this family with this need?
At present a new organization located in Chicago, IL called THE NEW ORLEANS REIT MANAGERS ( THE N.O.R.M. ) is currently seeking evacuees to aid in their
reconstruction and/or resettlement. The organization bypasses government funding and allows access of infused funds from investors. Currently the organization is
resettling 30 families in Northfield, CA and is supplying housing to another 300 evacuees (who have chosen to stay in their evacuation cities rather than return to NOLA) in Valdosta , GA area and Tallahassee, Fl. Complete info or a brochure is available by e-mailing a request to armdam2002@yahoo.com.
NOTE : The N.O.R.M.’s mission statement is to allow any and all presidentially
declared victims and their properties be recovered from all forms of disaster
including natural (fires, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes) and man - made ( HAZMAT, teroism)regardless of race, creed, color, ethnic heritage, age, gender and/or
economic status, whether homeowner, renter or homeless person. E - Mail the otoday to MAKE DISASTER PAY FOR YOU ! No cost, no obligation, just HELP.
It’s been 8 months, and the situation for many people has not changed. Not because the the victims have not tried. They are just unable to return to clean out their homes of the debris. Now, the August 29th 2006 deadline has been extended. But, owners of homes and businesses must get their homes cleaned out and boarded up! If they don’t, the New Orleans city council will sieze their property! Who knows how much time before another deadline is set?
What people need to understand is that there is a great deal of homes that can be saved.
Common Ground Relief (http://www.commongroundrelief.org) provides volunteers to do the gutting. But the owners need to give them wrien permission to enter the property to do the work.
Hello all, I have not written in a while because things had been trying to get better it seems, but things just went down hill really fast. Four months ago I wrote because my son was in the hospital with Rotavirus he was 2 months at the time. Well I had so many great people helping me. Thanks to all who did so much. But he is 6 months old now and got sick again. This time they dont know what is going on. Everything he eats comes right back up. He has been to 5 emergancy rooms, and 8 drs in the last month or so, but the worst part is that he has been admitted 2 times at 4 days each in the last month or so also. He was so dehydrated each time that they could not get his IVs in. they stick him about 30 times each visit which is so hard on me to watch I just cried. (More that he did) They finally just put it in his head. He had long hair and they had to leave the iv in the same spot for 4 days and had to cut his hair. Any way off subject. He has been through alot in the past few weeks. I feel like i have been going through this alone. My husband could not even visit him because he has to try to pick up as many hours as possible. His job is construction and as u all know when it rains u cant work, well it has rained the last 2 weeks off and on and he has lost alot of days. The 1st time my son was in the hospital this time my husband got really sick and could not get out of bed. I am sorry to go on and on but its so hard right now. We did have 2 cars but my car just went out and i have no transportation to get to my sons drs app. and he has to have weight checks because when he was sick he lost like almost 4 lbs and they have to weigh him 2 times a week. Any way the bottom line is that we need help. I dont know where to turn. I am at the end of my rope. I feel so lost right now. I feel like I am a single mom because my husband is trying to work all he can even if that means going to labor finders when it rains, or going to work sick. We have insurrence but they only pay 85 percent of everything. And we have so many hospital bills right now. I hate even opening the mailbox. My son had dozens of test done everyday to try to find out whats going on and they still dont know. Thanks Heavens he is home right now. But back to the reason I am writing is we need stuff for my son. Any thing will help. He needs summer clothes, like the one piece short outfits, he dont have any shoes, or any thing. We had his older clothes in a shed out back that got destroyed during katrina so he dont have any summer clothes. Any thing will be so helpful, even a gift card or something just so i can get him some clothes or shoes. We have a babies r us or toys r us down here so u can make sure i get him something. But we can use n e thing. We need things ourselves but I am not worrying about myself. All i am concerned about is my son. If u know someone who can use it worse than me, or who is worse off please help them we will manage somehow, but if you cant help please keep us in your prayers. But if you can help it will be deeply appreciated.
Ps. I am so sorry to write so much, I think I just needed to get all this out, sorta like telling someone instead of keeping it all inside. Please forgive me for writing so much. If you can help you can call me at 251-327-6312 or 251-865-9499. Thanks so much for reading.

We are in need of someone in the Pittsburgh area (or somewhere between Pittsburgh and New Orleans) willing to offer automotive/electricalal services at a reasonable or reduced price. We have recently purchased a very basic old motorhome that our family of 4 plans to drive back home to New Orleans and use as temporary housing until we are able to re-establish permanant housing as our previous home there was demolished in Katrina.
Right after buying the motorhome we turned on the generator and apparently blew a fuse or something similar and now the inside lights and electrical is not working. We are trying to get it road ready by June 8th, as we HAVE to be back home to New Orleans by the 15th to deal with some obligations. Since this will be our only home after that date having the electrical work is critical.
While our budget is tight, we are more than willing to pay a fair price to have it fixed. If you or someone you know could help us out please email me ASAP.

Each of you can make an immediate and substantial impact in helping to rebuild the lives of people who lost everything in Katrina. You are already doing it by reaching out here, through the Clearinghouse.
The Rev. Marlon Yarbrough of Baton Rouge, La., believes one of the keys to rebuilding the lives shattered by Katrina is to start to rebuild the small businesses.
To that end, the Rev. Yarbrough, and his associate Michele Davis, have started to identify businesses in need and, to date, have developed business plans and lists of in-kind donations necessary to bring several small businesses, formerly based in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, back to life.
I asked them to share with us the lists of items the businesses need so we could post them on this site. PLEASE SEE THE FIRST “RESPONSE” BELOW FOR THE LISTS. What if what the Rev. Yarbrough is doing could be done several hundreds of times over? If you are a small business owner from Katrina or Rita in need of in-kind donations and other assistance, or are a donor looking to help, please post in the comment section below.
Following are specific needs the Rev. Yarbrough has identified for small businesses formerly from the Ninth Ward of New Orleans. The businesses needs, of course, go beyond these lists. Remember, the businesses lost everything. So, even if you have computer paper for the print shop or extra diapers for the daycare center, I am sure anything and everything would be greatly, deeply appreciated. With that said, who knows, perhaps you have larger items as well for the beauty salon or the print shop? Wouldn’t that be amazing! If you can help with any of the following, please contact the Rev. Yarbrough by email: info@yarbroughministries.com. He can supply you with more detailed information, his organization’s 501c3 information as well as shipping addresses.
I was in New Orleans and Baton Rouge last week with the Rev. Yarbrough, saw the previous locations of these businesses and met some of the business owners. Anything you can do would go a tremendously long way.

I’ve been contacting local Mac user groups to see if any might help
put together a laptop system for me. If I do find an apt, I may not
have any access to computing - except @ the library. That trip takes
a good bit of energy, and is only useful for a short time - and does
not have assistive technology.
I really need contacts with people in the Denver metro area. THis is
where I have relocated to.
I appreciate any leads! And I’ll do what I can from here - to help
the folks remaining in the Gulf coast
Hello. I reside in the Georgia area. Recently, my 5 year daughter and I stayed in a 30 day temporary “Domestic Violence” shelter. But I decided to exit the program (due to close delivery) to stay temporarily with my mom and her husband in a very small apartment. I am 8 1/2 months pregnant and very close to labor. Since I have been having mild contractions, I no longer reside in the shelter. Therefore, I am unable to obtain the resources that I need at this time to get on my feet. I am currently unemployed with no income nor my own transportation. Both my mom and her husband have medical problems (Diabetes and High Blood Pressure) and high bills. So it’s definitely hard to depend on them for the things that I need at this time.I don’t have the finances to purchase baby items, clothing, necessities, etc, and I’m very close to going into labor. But I don’t have the things that I need for my new baby. I barely have clothing/underwear for myself and 5 year daughter since they have been destroyed in the previous abusive relationship I’ve just left. I don’t want to feel that I need to return to my abuser just to provide finances because I don’t have anyone to turn to right now. I’m just a struggling mother who is desperately seeking help right now. If you willing to help, “God Bless You”, and please email me at tiffany_say@yahoo.com
We have relocated to the Dallas, TX area due to hurricane Katrina. We have been staying with a friend of the family since then and paying rent. We have received very little help from Fema and the last we received was back in December. We are desperately in need of housing in the area to call our own, also furniture as we lost the majority of ours. Mostly needed is a queen or larger bed and maybe living room furniture. My husband had a job but last month became laid off and even had his payroll check bounce so we can’t afford even to pay where we are living right now. We just temporarily need a place that would be cheap and possibly maybe buy later on. My husband is now working at least on a contract basis but looking for more permanent employment as he is in the HVAC construction sheet metal etc industry. We are both decent people but have pets that are about 9 years old so we cannot live in an apartment complex, need a house! We have a rottweiler who is 9 but is not at all vicious in any way, he has always been a house dog and is spoiled rotten! We also have two inside fixed and declawed cats. I am also looking for a clerical/medical field related job maybe on a part time basis as I have some back problems that I need to get help with, if not I will be trying to get on disability. It is just the two of us and we are quiet but fun loving people, easy going. If anyone can help please email with any suggestions or anything! Thanks and God Bless!

FIRST LET ME SAY THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS EXTENDED A HELPING HAND TO ALL OF US AS KATRINA SURVIVOR(NEVER KNEW IN MY LIKE TIME I WOULD BE PROUD OF THIS SO MUCH). BUT AS THE ANNIVERSARY OF KATRINA COMES UP I WOULD ASK EVERYONE TO PLEASE SAY AN EXTRA SPECIAL PRAYER FOR EVERYONE THAT IS STILL TRYING TO RECOVER FROM KATRINA. WHETHER THEY STAYED, MOVED OR ARE TRYING TO RETURN. AS THEY TRY TO PICK UP THE PIECES OF THEIR LIFE, IT IS A DAILY STRUGGLE TO FIGHT THE DEPRESSION AND HOPELESSNESS THAT SEEMS TO ATTACK YOU WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT. I KNOW, BECAUSE WHILE I SURVIVED AND HAVE REPAIRED ALL THE DAMAGE TO MY HOME(WHICH MANY PEOPLE DO NOT EVEN HAVE A HOME TO REPAIR) I STILL ONE YEAR LATER HAVE NOT GOTTEN BACK COMPLETELY ON MY FEET AND STILL FIND TIMES WHEN I JUST WANT TO CRY. SO IF YOU ARE IN ANOTHER AREA AND THINK PEOPLE SHOULD BE FINE AS IT HAS BEEN A YEAR(AND I RECENTLY HAD SOMEONE TELL ME I SHOULD QUIT USING KATRINA AS AN EXCUSE) I PERSONALLY WILL TELL YOU THAT MANY PEOPLE LIKE ME ARE HARD WORKING PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO GET BACK TO “NORMAL” OR AT LEAST PRE-KATRINA NORMAL AND WHILE SOME PEOPLE MAY HAVE MILKED THE SYSTEM AND STILL EXPECT , MOST OF US ARE JUST OVERWHELMED AND ASKING FOR HUMAN KINDNESS AND A HELPING HAND. I STILL HAVE 7 PEOPLE IN MY HOME RANGING IN AGE FROM 54(ME) TO A 2 YR OLD. AND IT THROWED US FOR A LOOP AND HAS BEEN ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER SINCE KATRINA AND YET I GET UP EVERY DAY AND GO TO WORK AND ASK GOD TO HELP ME MAKE IT THROUGH THE DAY. BUT
I STILL SEE BLUE ROOFS, TREES DOWN, AND IN MY CASE AM STILL TRYING TO RESTOCK FREEZER THAT WERE FULL WHEN KATRINA HIT. SO IF YOU EVER THOUGHT TO JUDGE ANYONE IN THE AFFECTED AREA PLEASE TAKE IT FROM A SURVIVOR, DON’T BECAUSE THE MAJORITY ARE JUST LIKE ME AND STILL TRYING TO RECOVER. Hello and my name is Susan. I am a single mother of three who was affected by Katrina in Louisiana. My children and I lived in a shelter for 9 months and in June moved to San Antonio. While it is a hard road getting back on our feet..we are glad to be out of the shelter and once again in our own place. There are various things I need and have not been able to get. I am in need of either a bed for myself or bunk beds for my children. I was given two beds, which one went to my daughter and the other one went to my boys. I would love to get a bunk bed for the boys and in turn I would take their bed. I am in need of clothes, my girl is in a 7/8 and her shoe size is a 13/1, my middle boy is in 5T or 6/7 and is in a shoe size 12, and my little one is in 18 month-24 month clothes and is in a shoe size 7.5 to 8. Household items are needed as well. Anything and everything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Always Susan :0)~
I am writing in reguards of a person who helped a lot of people after Katrina and who hit a bump in the road and now needs help for herself. She has a baby due any day now and only has clothes for him. She is needing pretty much anything a baby needs.
She has a registry here http://www.walmart.com/giftregistry/gr_load_edit.do?registryId=06022086001
A side from that, if you would like to mail her anything for baby such as diapers, wipes, baby soaps etc you can e mail me for her address.

If school supplies are needed please feel free to include that as well. I’m a Single-parent, but is fortunate to share my belongings with families who’s in a greater need than me at this time. Please keep the hope alive and I hope I can help some families in New Orleans….and still you rise.
I have baby items that are in excellent shape, am looking for someone to donate them to. I have a bottle sterilizer (you put in the microwave to steam), bottles, a wonderful manual breastpump (sterilized and barely used, i am disease-free), diaper bags, a pad for a changing table (or to put on top of a dresser to use as a changing area), and an Avent bottle warmer. I have a 4 month old son, and would be happy to continue to donate clothing as he grows out of them. Unfortunately, I already gave away his 0-3 month stuff. Additionally, I know I will have other items to donate in the future as he grows older. Anyone who is pregnant and will be in need of items like these, please contact me! They are things in beautiful, practically new condition. Thank you!
I am located in Georgia and want to help. I have plenty of kids clothes up to 4T and tons of gently used toys, books and VHS tapes. Also I make a few kid related things to make these poor little ones feel special again. I am a Sunday school teacher and want to start a pen-pal relationship with some families with kids and take up a love offering of toys etc. PLease let me know what we can do!

We just want to help. I hope you join us.
Thank you for your time,
Stephanie

If anyone can help me out it would be WONDERFUL!!! Again thank you all so much!

I am a single female without ANY family.I lost my parents when I was younger.

our family has relocated to colodado since the storm. we are now trying to get back home. like most of us the little bit of money from the government wasn’t enough to make a new start elsewhere, so we are going back home. I have a job offer & applied for a FEMA trailer, but we have to leave colorado by the end of feburary. It’ll cost us about $1,000 for the move. and we hope to get the trailer by then.

I have my sister, and nephew and his three kids here in my home. Only needes met was clothing, and my place to live. We have come found out now they will have to look for prement residence here in Des Moines, because the building plan stated if more than 50 % of the dwelling space needed repair will be trown down. I would like request assisstance for my family.

Thank you so much for reading even if you cant help please say a prayer for my best friends. they dont know i am trying to help in this way they are to proud to ask me to post this. thanks mandi.
you can e-mail me at mandi_pooh_4u@yahoo.com
Aloha,
I don’t know if anyone is reading this, and I don’t know if there are any assistance out there for me and my son, and the situation that I am in.

Any help or info would be a certain blessing.
Your friend in Christ….Cheryl Edwards

Hey all! I’m sorry it took me so long to get back on here, but thank you so much to those who helped my family! We are finally starting to get things back in order now that our house is supposed to be selling! Thank you all so, so much for the assistance! Keep up the great work! I know that there are still so many down here that can use the help! God bless you all, and to those who are from the South… Stay strong and keep moving forward! It all gets better in the end!
Also, I have some baby boy clothes that my son has outgrown and I’d like to pass on the generousity that has been shown to me. Email me if you have a baby boy who NEEDS 9-12 mo. size clothing.
Thanks again,
Amanda

Hello everyone. I am a 17 year old junior attending high school in Camden County, New Jersey and was interested in organizing a school clothing drive to help out the victims of hurricane Katrina. If anyone could assist my school’s enviornmental club in doing so or knows of any organzations that could assist us that would be very helpful. We need an effective way to get the students to participate in donating clothing and/or other items to help out the Katrina relief fund.
Please contact me if you have any information.
Thankyou!
We run a small hoofed animal rescue in southern Mississippi. We are in desperate need of horse food, hay, suppliments, and meds. We also have several horses looking for homes. If anyone is interested in adopting, or perhaps life is such that a sponcership would be better for you. PLEASE look at our web page and contact me if you think you can help.

A social worker gave me website in hopes that someone maybe able to donate a car or funds that might help me to get another one. I am baffled by the mechanics actions for not securing my vehicle. I have been calling all around to find out who may help me without any luck. I also wish that I could get help with getting clothes for my children who are three girls ranging in size 12 and 8 and five boys size 36 lenghth and32 width, boy size 7 and toddler boys 2t,3tand 4t. I can be reached at 281-852-9197. Thanks and God Bless everyone who have helped and will continue to help people like myself who are in need

Can anyone help my husband and I rebuild?? We live in Bay Saint Louis and we have our cement slab and pilings left. We seem to fall through all the cracks of the grants out there. We were insured but evidently not enough. Building costs have doubled and tripled. Husband is disabled and in poor medical condition. Why are we forgotten? Why is there no help for us?
My husband and I lost everything in Bay st. louis, ms. We have relocate dto Dallas, tx and are in dier need of help!! We can’t seem to find any!! We need $1,050 becasue we are 3 months behind on our truck payment. He enrolled in school, and I am job hunting, we are living off of 98.00 a week form disaster unemployment. Are there any angels out there???? Please help!!!!!

Thanks!

Save New Orleans from gentrification!

Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!

ALL WE ASK IS YOUR PRAYERS, AND IF YOU CAN HELP SOMEONE DO IT. I PROMISE YOU IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU SOMEDAY. IF YOU HAVE NEVER WATCHED THE MOVIE”PAY IT FORWARD” PLEASE DO. HELPING PEOPLE IS A CIRCLE AND IF YOU HELP SOMEONE TODAY SOMEDAY SOMEONE WILL BE THERE TO HELP YOU. AND PLEASE TAKE TIME OUT OF YOUR SCHEDULED TO WATCH SOME OF THE SPECIALS TO BE AIRED ON THE ANNIVERSAY OF KATRINA AS IT WILL SHOW YOU WHAT IS STILL GOING ON. SPIKE LEE HAS ONE ON NEW ORLEANS ON HBO ON AUG. 29 AND THEN THERE IS ONE SURVIVIVING KATNA COMING ON ON ANOTHER CHANNEL TAKE THE TIME TO WATCH AND HAVE YOUR CHILDRENS WATCH. THERE IS NO BETTER TIME TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THE ART OF GIVING THAN RIGHT NOW AND IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHO TO HELP THIS SITE IS FULL OF PEOPLE. SO HOPEFULLY YOU TOOK THE TIME TO READ THIS EVEN IF IT IS LENTHY AND MAY GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE ONE OF YOU WHETHER YOU ARE SOMEONE HELPING OR SOMEONE BEING HELPED. AND FOR ALL THE SURVIVORS OF KATRINA WE MAKE IT THROUGH THE FIRST YEAR AND HOPEFULLY NEXT YEAR WILL BE BETTER.
FROM A FELLOW SURVIVOR (AND PROUD OF IT)

She has a registry here

A side from that, if you would like to mail her anything for baby such as diapers, wipes, baby soaps etc you can e mail me for her address.

PLease let me know what we can do!
we lost our home to hurricane rita. we need a mason and bricklayer that knows what there doing. its hard getting contractors to return phone calls. its been a year in hell .we need help rebuilding a barn and carport and our house. lots of needs. i wish for volunteers and a miracle and prayers. i know its all over. from winnie ,tx to key west fla. i pray we are in our house by christmas but, its not looking good. its so, depressing. my folks work and have little time to work. and i can hardly go in the house without crying. its slow to mildly steady. i know it will work out. and its hard to ask for help. thank you.
I have just found this site this evening and seeing requests for items needed led me to share a site which may be of assistance to those in need or looking fo
